I made this painting of a dragon. Lately I've been making a lot of different creatures and kind of supernatural beings.. I imagine this has something to to do with creating avatars in the digital world as well. However fantasy creatures like dragons and elves and orks have existed in the collective unconscience for quite some time period what it is about dragons that is so compelling to us. Generally I'll make a playlist of YouTube videos to have in the background while I'm painting. This is part of the process of how I work. For some reason one day I compiled a playlist of videos pertaining to dragons. The idea of slaying a dragon of course can be metaphorical. There's also the possibility that dragons really existed as well. Essentially the theory is that since they would have to fly they would have to have very hollow bones. And so all of the bones bones of dragons wouldn't have existed for long. And. And they wouldn't have become fossilized. So on the one hand there's this importance of dragons living at the same time as humans it makes our world seem more fantastical and magical and we like that I thit's like that I think that is what draws people to dragons for so long. The painting which I've made is more of a baby dragon almost and I'm using my normal abstract representational presentational methods in the creation of it.
My connection to dragons is probably based in pure nostalgia. When I was younger I grew up during the Dungeons & Dragons era, comma and I would play dungeon dragons in my friend's basement with him. There's a disconnection from the real world with fantasyAnd this disconnection is enjoyable.I don't really prefer high fantasy I would rather watch movies like dragon slayer it's like dragon slayer that are just about a few characters in their pursuits in their trials and tribulations and how they have to slay the dragon. And I suppose this connects directly to the heroes journey as well.. It's a very simple formula to write any story or book.. And the dragon Is a very powerful powerful antagonist. It's also a story of David and Goliath. Of our hero the downtrodden person I'm a person who has to save the day in his fight against a mythical creature little creature. So this painting is like many of my paintings rooted in a certain nostalgia of my own life.
