"Right now there's so much emphasis on financial success. I think it's really dangerous and a destructive thing to completely equate the two. Many artists live on the praise reflected back from the rest of the world. Being an artist is the strangest proposition because you make things no one tells you to make. You put things out in the world, and then you expect the world to reward you in return? It's a setup for enormous disappointment and self destruction if you can't modify that system in some way to protect yourself. The reward must be internalized and in the work, and after in the world."
